Your First Adults Karate Class – What to Expect

Thinking about trying karate as an adult but feeling a little nervous? You’re definitely not alone.

Whether you’ve never stepped foot in a dojo before, haven’t exercised in years, or you’re simply trying something completely new, it’s perfectly normal to feel a few butterflies before your first class. The good news? Everyone starts somewhere, and at Kaizen, we’re here to make those first steps as comfortable as possible.

First Things First – What Should I Wear?

The answer is simple: whatever you can move comfortably in!

For your first class, joggers or leggings and a t-shirt are ideal. There’s no need to rush out and buy a karate uniform before you’ve even had a go. Just come dressed to move, learn, and have fun.

And don’t forget to bring a drink – you’ll thank yourself later!

Arrive 10 Minutes Early

We’d love you to arrive around 10 minutes before the class starts.

This gives us a chance to say hello properly, show you around, answer any questions you might have, and help you settle in before the session begins. We know walking into a new environment can feel daunting, so we’d much rather have a relaxed chat beforehand than see you rushing through the door at the last minute.

What Happens During the Class?

One of the biggest worries people have is that they’ll be expected to keep up with everyone else from day one.

Don’t worry – that’s not how we do things.

Your first class is all about getting comfortable, learning the basics, and enjoying the experience. We’ll take things slowly, explain everything clearly, and help you build confidence as you go.

You’ll be introduced to some fundamental karate techniques, movement drills, and exercises, all at a pace that works for you. Nobody is expecting perfection, and nobody is keeping score.

Leave Your Ego at the Door

One thing we’re incredibly proud of at Kaizen is the atmosphere we’ve created.

Our dojo is filled with people from all walks of life, different ages, fitness levels, and experience backgrounds. Some members have trained for years, while others are taking their very first steps onto the mats.

What brings everyone together is a shared desire to learn, improve, and support one another.

There are no egos here. No points to prove. No pressure to be the best in the room.

Just a warm, friendly, and encouraging environment where everyone is welcome.

It’s Okay to Feel Nervous

Seriously.

Almost every student who walks through our doors for the first time feels nervous. The funny thing is that most of them tell us afterwards that they had nothing to worry about.

You’ll quickly discover that karate isn’t about being tough or intimidating. It’s about learning new skills, challenging yourself, building confidence, and enjoying the journey alongside like-minded people.

We Can’t Wait to Meet You

Starting something new takes courage, and by booking that first class you’ve already taken the hardest step.

So grab your comfy clothes, bring a drink, arrive a few minutes early, and come ready to learn something new.

We can’t wait to welcome you to our dojo.

Let’s have fun, grow together, and see where your karate journey takes you.
