So, your 3 year old is ready to try karate – exciting, right? We know that starting something new can feel like a big step – for both children and parents! At Kaizen Black Belt Academy, we understand that enrolling your 3 year old into our Little Kickers Karate Class may bring a mix of excitement and nerves. So here’s a little sneak peek at what you can expect when you walk through the doors.
What to Wear
For your child:
👟 Comfort is key – Joggers or leggings and a comfy t-shirt. Think “ready to run around” rather than “mini karate master” (the cool kit comes later!).
For you:
🙌 Parents are part of the action! Yes, you’re joining in too! Don’t worry, you won’t be asked to throw kicks and punches, but you will be moving around, holding pads, and handing out lots of high fives. So wear something you’re comfy in too.
What Happens in a Little Kickers Class?
Each session follows a simple structure to help children feel safe and enjoy themselves:
- Warm-Up: We ease into things with age-appropriate exercises that feel more like play than work. Expect giggles, wiggly arms, and plenty of running about.
- Basic Karate Techniques: Children are introduced to simple moves, always at their own pace. This isn’t about perfect punches or kicks – it’s about building coordination, confidence, and having fun.
- Parent Participation: This is where you come in – parents play a big role! You’ll be asked to hold pads, encourage your child, and celebrate their efforts. While you won’t be taking a full karate class yourself, your involvement makes all the difference in helping your child feel supported (and trust us, the high fives are magic).
Settling In: It’s Normal to Feel Nervous
Some children may feel a little shy, clingy or unsure at their first class – and that’s perfectly normal! That’s why, at Kaizen we make sure our classes are full of smiles, silliness, and encouragement. Nobody is forced to do anything they’re not ready for, and before long even the most hesitant little kicker usually can’t wait to join in.
Remember, you’re right there with them too – your presence helps them adjust quickly. When they see you cheering them on, joining in with high fives, and celebrating their small wins, they feel safe and eager to try new things.
The Benefits Go Beyond the Dojo
Our Little Kickers Karate Classes aren’t just about learning karate – they’re about building confidence, social skills, coordination, and most importantly, having fun together.
👉 Thinking about booking your child’s first class? Come along ready to move, laugh, and cheer – you’ll both leave with big smiles and maybe even a new favourite weekly activity!
